Weddings are joyous occasions for so many reasons - celebrating new life, and love, joining two families, or even just reuniting with relatives you seldom see. Still, there is always more joy to spread around - and that’s where The Good Beginning comes in.
Run by Beth Helmstetter, The Good Beginning is a brilliant not-for-profit organisation that enables the conscious couple to streamline charitable donations for their guests. In 2025, many engaged couples have already been living in their own accommodations, either together or separately and so don’t need the traditional registry items.
The Good Beginning enables guests to give back, without creating clutter. Rather than filling the couple’s kitchens with nick-nacks and bric-a-brac that they don’t need, guests are able to donate to charities of the couple’s choosing, in lieu of a gift.
On average, The Good Beginning has helped couples raise an amazing $300,000+ annually for causes that are meaningful to them.

The Good Beginning was born out of my work as a wedding planner and designer, where I saw couples wanting to use their special day as a platform for giving back. Many were dedicating their time and resources to local organizations like soup kitchens, animal shelters, and educational programs, but lacked an efficient way to track and direct these contributions. Combining my passion for celebrations with the desire to make a meaningful impact, I created The Good Beginning as a streamlined solution to help couples turn their joy into opportunities for change.
The Good Beginning is a 501(c)(3) charitable registry platform designed to seamlessly integrate giving back into a couple’s celebration. Couples can select nonprofits that align with their values—either from our curated list or by nominating their own—and guests contribute directly through the registry. We ensure that donations are traceable, impactful, and reach the intended organizations, amplifying the power of their generosity.
As mentioned, many nonprofits lack the infrastructure to manage and track multiple donations from smaller groups in a way that allows couples to properly acknowledge and thank their guests. Without The Good Beginning, guests often face cumbersome processes like leaving messages or navigating unreturned calls to donate. The platform streamlines the entire process, offering an easy-to-use interface where couples can identify organizations, manage contributions, and track gifts in one place.
Once donations are received, The Good Beginning provides couples with a detailed report, listing each guest, their contribution amount, and the organization they supported. This simplifies the acknowledgment process, ensuring that couples can express gratitude effortlessly while focusing on the joy of their celebration.
The platform supports a wide variety of causes, from disaster relief and environmental conservation to education, social justice, and animal welfare.
